I know it is a hugely popular method for controlling hormonal acne and I know many people have had positive results from taking it, however it is also something that is only going to work as long as you are on it.

I would also like to note that this also happened to one of my favourite reality TV stars, Khloe Kardashian and it is documented in an episode from Season 13. But it was a very scary and emotional few months for my friend as she was worried she might not be able to fall pregnant. When the birth control had exited her system, her levels rose again. The birth control had been in a way ‘hiding’ her eggs and they couldn’t be seen in tests results. She was advised by the doctor to get off birth control immediately and come back again in a few months to be re-tested.Īfter a few months off birth control her levels returned to ‘normal’. The result came back as a complete shock as my friend was told she had a very low egg count. She did at test at the doctors to check her egg reserve, thinking she was perfectly healthy and should have ample. Something else I learned last year is that birth control can also mess with your egg count levels.Ī friend of mine was on birth control for years and she is now 31 years old. It was at this point that I decided that I was DONE with birth control, and all medications that weren’t natural. I had also heard that you can develop blood clots in your body when taking this medication, which is highly dangerous (and can be fatal) and I just thought ‘What am i doing? I don’t want to die this way’.

I know these types of breakouts can be ‘normal’ when taking birth control as it can take your hormones a while to adjust, but still, when you are trying to clear your skin and are only experiencing more acne, its pretty discouraging.īut what really made me stop this medication again is when I started waking up feeling really short of breath.

I also had giant cystic breakouts coming out on areas of my face that were normally clear (my cheeks, and my forehead). It really started to worry me because I am normally a happy and optimistic person. I just felt so sad and tired all the time, and didn’t want to do anything. I was irritable, anxious and depressed and had no energy. The first thing I noticed when taking this medication is how ‘off’ i felt. So I was prescribed Diane-35 again, and I took it religiously for the next 3 months. The doctor suggested I take it as topicals were not working, and I had done some more research online and saw some pretty encouraging reviews. So i gave up on this treatment for a few years, before deciding to try it again in August last year (2016). I also wasn’t that good at remembering to take it every single day, which didn’t help my periods when they arrived (usually late). Perhaps I didn’t give it a fair chance as I only took it for 2 or 3 months, but in this time the severity of my acne increased. I tried birth control when I was younger (Diane-35), and my acne only appeared to get worse. I will discuss topical treatments in a later post, as today I want to focus solely on birth control.

The first is a topical treatment, and the other is birth control. Most doctors have suggested a couple of different methods to help control it. I have been to the doctors several times over the years searching for a cure for my acne.
